Dual Bryan Boiler Install

Client Background

For our local hospital in the Las Vegas valley staying up to date in all facets is a priority. Our long term client reached out to us needing to update their boilers, understanding that their 30 year old system was no longer keeping up with their growing facility. After being familiar with their facility, the urgency of the situation, and the challenge we were up against, we rushed to jump in and help out.

Challenge

Towards the end of 2025, at one of our local hospitals, the central plant hydronic heating boilers began experiencing internal tube failures. The previous boilers were the original hydronic boilers since the hospital’s construction in the late 90’s. Our customer contacted CWF with an urgent Emergency rental boiler request that would support their hospital throughout the Las Vegas winter, and or until new boilers were constructed, delivered, and installed.

Solution

CWF was up to the emergency and challenges required to accomplish our customers urgent needs. Our primary focus was for ER boiler installation for temporary building heat, for the hospital. We worked with a local engineering company for initial plans and system sizing, as well as working with our customer to offer emergency temporary infrastructure items for any future immediate tie-in needs. During the process, ensuring the hospital remained functional whilst the emergency boilers were installed was a priority. In turn we proposed an emergency mechanical bypass piping plan. Thus, removing the need for numerous shutdowns and disruptions, prioritizing the functionality of hospital heating requirements for patients and hospital staff. For what we had planned we began with installing mechanical piping across the rooftop of the hospital, down to exterior ground level for ER temporary boiler connections. We installed appropriate emergency power transformers and associated components to the exterior ground level area as well as, performing a natural gas pipeline run from the main gas supply to exterior ground level for emergency boiler tie-in points. During this time rental boilers were set, piped in and all utilities ran to units for operations. The emergency boilers ran throughout the winter season whilst new boiler replacements were manufactured. Giving us 3-4 months to prepare for the new installation and gather all pieces needed and continuing to be able to keep the hospital heating online and operational during this period.

Our second challenge was working with our boiler manufacturer representatives for an appropriate boiler model to match the restricted footprint and boiler room access. Along with the selected new boiler, we proposed a new burner with updated controls and duel fuel capabilities. The new Bryan boilers, with Webster burners and Autoflame controls were approved by our customer and ordered. The original construction of the central plant boiler room was curated round the dimensions of the original outdated boilers, this proved to be a crucial element in selection for the new equipment.

Outcome

Once our plan was devised we jumped into the project with a large to do list. The first step was to modify the existing main boiler loop water/heat piping, valves, boiler flue, housekeeping pads, natural gas lines and electrical and BMS piping. In order to complete this we exposed the entrance to the central plant boiler room, allowing the demo and removal of the failed boilers, as well as the staging, moving, and setting of the new boilers. In addition to the new boilers & burners, our customers’ main hydronic system pump/motors were failing. With that knowledge we provided a new main hydronic system pump & motors and performed installation, start up and alignment of these items.

The new boilers were installed with central plant future improvement and upgrades in mind. Centennial Concrete was crucial in the installation process, providing us the new platform for one of The Bryan boilers to stand on as well as helping us with the removal of damaged older concrete from the previous equipment. The Bryan boilers and their components will have an extensive new life span with proper preventative maintenance, water chemistry and operations. The updated boilers, controls and piping will assist in the reduction of fuel consumption losses, electrical power consumption reduction, and meet all state and local safety codes and guidelines. As of now, BMS – building management system wiring and controls are being finalized, offering our customer the ability to monitor, adjust and address any boiler issues that may arise. After a two month timeline of ten hour days, our guys managed to complete the project with the collaboration of Centennial Concrete and our local engineering company providing a finished project completely tailored to our hospital’s needs.
